I know almost nothing about Windows programming, so take that into
consideration when reading the following comment.

I'm not sure I'd let IBM off the hook that easily.  *Everything* else on the
PC works fine.  Lotus Notes is up and "connected", Firefox and IE are
working fine.  Even OpsNav is able to connect to the iSeries and do tasks
through there.  At the bare minimum, the error message should be more
detailed than "unexpected error" and offer either a link to the technote, or
repeat some of the information in it.  Frankly, it seems to me that IBM
could do something on their end to rectify the problem.  The problem appears
to be related to the PC5250 License Error; if so, IBM should bypass checking
the license and allow regular signon to take place.  (The assumption is
that, since Ops Nav can access my iSeries profile and data, "PC5250
Licensing" is taking a different "route" to the iSeries than the display
emulator.)
