This I'm not sure of - a shell script seems to start a sub-shell, if I read the documentation correctly. And the prompt is at standard error, which in console mode is the screen. It partly depends, probably, on how you call it. Nonetheless, it seems that it is possible to prompt a user in a script, so I don't know. This sounds like a question for IBM support - or the QShell manual might have something buried - I don't have time to dig - or talk to a Unix person about how shell scripts work - this is supposed to work like that, as far as I know. Let us know what you learn, please. -------------- Original message -------------- From: Zvi Kave <zvi_kave@xxxxxxxxx>
Vernon, I found the cp help - thanks. Can you help me with the 2nd problem. When running the script from native QSH CMD('script.sh') the command "cp -i file1 file2" in the script does not wait for input. Thanks, Zvi --- Vernon Hamberg wrote:QShell utilities are not like iSeries commands, as you know, they are like Unix commands. Those have very little help with them - and QShell has none of the man entries for the commands. All the real documentation is in a PDF you can download from InfoCenter - or at InfoCenter itself. Many of the commands display a usage prompt - it seems at times that the -h option causes this, but in this case, it turns out that that is a real option. The prompt is displayed when there is an error, say, perhaps not having enough parameters. Of course, that is not helpful enough. Just one of the reasons to appreciate the command help of the iSeries. www.iseries.ibm.com/infocenter will get you started. At 06:18 AM 9/6/2006, you wrote:QSH cp questions: 1. How can I find help of the cp command in QSHELL? I like to copy file only when it is newer than the target. 2. I like to use also "cp -i..." (interactive) to prompt the user. But if I put the commands in a script file, and use QSH CMD('script.sh'), it does not stop for the answer of the user, but proceeds to the next commandline. Thanks, Zvi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
