Steve, are you alluding that other databases are smart enough to create 
their own permanent indexes and views based on what the DB thinks the 
access path should be ?

If so, that's very cool.  Show me where I can get some of that :-)

ok, sorry.  I still think it is nuts that db2 cant keep track of what
indexes should and should not be retained and maintained based on
their frequency of use and the time it takes to build them.   If the
system was not geared down it would have the horsepower needed to
perform this task.
