Deb: The two system values are closely related. The action a job takes when it hits the threshold defined by QJOBMSGQMX is defined by QJOBMSGQFL. If you leave QJOBMSGQFL set to *NOWRAP, these system values can be used to stop long-running jobs. If you reduce the value of QJOBMSGQMX, more jobs will need to take the action defined in QJOBMSGQFL. If the action is *NOWRAP, those jobs that hit the threshold will end. If you increase the value of QJOBMSGQMX, fewer jobs hit the threshold. You have better control of the jobs that hit the threshold and the action taken by using job descriptions and the submit job command. You do not need to change either of these system values. I haven't changed the system value QJOBMSGQMX or QJOBMSGQFL on my systems. I left them at the default value of 16MB and *NOWRAP. When I run into jobs that fill the job message queue and end abnormally, I change the submit job command that submitted the job and increase the size of the job log and change to action to *WRAP. But I don't run a production system and I have the luxury of rerunning almost any job. --phil Phil Ashe NetIQ (A division of Attachmate) 1233 West Loop South, Suite 1800 | Houston, TX 77027 USA 713.418.5279 phone phil.ashe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.netiq.com -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of DebbieKelemen Sent: Tuesday, September 26, 2006 12:48 PM To: 'Midrange Systems Technical Discussion' Subject: RE: QJOBMSGQMX Setting You guys are talking about QJOBMSGQFL not QJOBMSGQMX. But thanks for the try anyway. Deb
