Well, I haven't tried it, but it seems that it might work as long as there
were no DDS features (such as EDTCDE) that SQL doesn't support.  Have you
tried this on a file that doesn't have these things?

Second, if you're okay with losing your edit codes, what's wrong with the
FMTOPT(*MAP)?
