RANT ON
Boy it's hard for me to teach a developer something new. When I asked them
about enabling the PRINT function they immediately dismissed the whole idea
that one of THEIR PROGRAMS could be at fault for a print screen not working. I
had to investigate this myself. I guess that's what happens when you're an
operator and you're trying to tell a seasoned developer something.
I get the same reaction when I try to explain adopted authority to them. They
just don't want to hear it from me.
Rant OFF

Most of the time I don't include it for the same reason that your
developers don't - just overlook it. Only a handful of our users,
though, run on dumb terminals, and they're in our warehouse. Everyone
else, including moi, simply uses the Print icon in iSeries Access.

So you have to go out of your way to add it, huh? I guess that's why our

when I'm in a custom menu option it doesn't.

Shouldn't it be a standard for display files?

Poll: Do all your display files have the PRINT keyword in the DDS? If not,
why not?

Wasn't aware of that one. Being a host print function, as you know, it
returned the "Function key not allowed" message. Adding the PRINT
keyword to the display, though, allowed the host print function to work.

Try CTRL - PAUSE for a host print in iSeries Access. It's very handy!

You need the PRINT keyword in your display file's DDS. This can be
assigned at either the File or Record level.

That being said, this seems to only apply to dumb terminals (twinax). I
ran a test on a display that did not have the PRINT keyword. On an
iSeries Access session, IA printed the screen (using the Print key, not
the menu option). The same panel on a twinax device returned the
"Function key not allowed."

There's something that controls whether function keys are allowed in a
program and I forgot what it is, looked for it and can't find it. It's a
simple yes or no. Do you know what it is?

Some of our custom programs return a "Function key not allowed" when using
the print button on a dumb terminal keyboard and some programs perform the
desired host print. I want to enable host printing for all our programs.

Thanks in advance.
