Not sure if it can even use an index-created LF, but I don't see why
not.

Only RLA will ever give you a level check.

Very true. If you're using SQL in the 3GL to access the table then no
level-check, but if that's the case, why the "need" for a logical file?
Just do your select on the table (or view) and the index is simply a
performance artifact.
