Adam,
I think there is some logic in the tier based pricing model, although we
have rarely used this model for our business. The thinking goes along the
lines that the more capacity the system has, the more users there are and
the more the software gets used as a result. This plays especially in the
area of support. On a small system with limited capacity, the software is
used less, there are fewer users and, consequently, there is a lot less
   support required.
Does anyone else recall other thinking behind this pricing model?

That seems logical to me. Tier based pricing as a whole does not
     however.
This isn't something I've seen in the PC world (where user-based
     pricing
seems to be the norm). Anyone care to comment on what they think the
     logic behind tier-based pricing is?

     P.S. - I'm not really crazy about user-based pricing either, though I'm
coming to think it might be the least of the evils.
