BRMS since V5R4 can completely automate this for you. 

Before V5R4, a console monitor has to be used (which has be manually
started each IPL).

Without BRMS, you'll need to start the backup manually, but a save 21
can be completely automated (read Jerrys reply and IBMs Backup &
Recovery Guide).
