What are the firmware requirements. We upgraded to 6.1.2 last month
(were running 2 year old code) and my Server Firmware is at Level 96 (EC
01SF225).

it
hasn't been updated since 2005....new jobs are fun when nothing has been
PTFed, updated, etc for over 2 years....not.....
Thanks,

New version of HMC.
Loaded 7.3.1.0 of HMC (after getting my firmware up to an appropriate
level).
Loaded on MH01015, MH01030, MH01041 on the HMC.
The interface is very nice. Only those used to the old version, and
could
click on the right thing blindfolded, might complain.
Some small quirks like trying to start the 5250 session was a bit, well,
quirky, but I got it done.
Can't really duplicate the
ServerI
     Partition1
     Partition2
     Partition3
ServerII
     PartitionA
     PartitionB
screen. I could get a group screen that listed
     Partition1
     Partition2
     Partition3
     PartitionA
     PartitionB
Remote access to the HMC was incredibly easy to set up (once I found the
documentation). I went into: HMC Management, Administration, Remote
Operation and changed it from disabled to enabled. Then I used a
browser
to go to
https://myhmc Remember, that is httpS, not just http. First
time I had to install a certificate. Now I get the full GUI easily.
Other
than installing the certificate (when prompted), and allowing popups for
this site, there was nothing to configure or install on the PC.
I don't have access to 5250 sessions started on the HMC via this method.
I
still had to use iSeries Access for Windows and change:
Communication, Configure, System Name
Communication, Configure, Properties, Use default User Id, prompt as
needed
Communication, Configure, Properties, User ID Q#HMC
Communication, Configure, Properties, Security, Not Secured
Communication, Configure, Type of emulation, Display, leave size at
24x80.
Communication, Configure, Port number, 2300, not the default of 23.
Make sure when you start 5250 sessions on the HMC you make them shared
and
not dedicated.
