Some of those ducts can radiate a good bit of heat back into the room!  I
just had that problem with a portable unit in our bedroom this week... went

I never understood how those portable units could help.....
Most of the ones I've seen have a flexible duct (think dryer vent)
coming out of the back that you can then use to send the hot air
somewhere else.
