I'm not sure if I quite agree with this. Years back when I started
writing
my software I did just that.. limited solutions. Example, SPLTOOL. I
limited it to 30 pages or less you could convert to test.

I'm not talking about crippleware. I'm talking about free software that
does a good job, just doesn't have a lot of advanced features (stuff that
some people don't ever need). You also don't get a whole lot of support.
This is especially important for independent software developers.
Unfortunately, the folks at Rational are used to dealing with the large
corporate accounts who are willing to spend $3500 a seat on a product just
to see if it works.
