Because data entry operators make mistakes. They fail to notice that it's LPAR 01.

I've done it myself, even having a terminal session open on the machine in question, with the LPAR number staring me right in the face. Most of the time, those typing in the specs to generate the authorization code are getting the model and serial number by phone.

So I'm under orders to update our authorization code generators so they recognize which machines cannot possibly be LPAR 00, and override that value to 01.

If I'd known that there would apparently never be an LPAR 00 and an LPAR 01 on the same box, I'd have made the two values equivalent to each other. Ain't 20-20 hindsight wonderful?
