This is such a nonsense statement. There is nothing in an RDBMS
definition that requires SQL. It's just that the current standard DDL
and DML is SQL.
iSeries supports both SQL and non-SQL access to database files. Why?
Because it *IS* a database machine. The database is implemented below
both those I/O methods. That's a bonus not available to developers on
other systems.
Because multiple methods of data access are supported it makes sense
to store statistical information for both. Given the object nature of
the system it also makes sense to store this information WITH the
object containing the data.
A DBMON function is only going to show you information for the period
during which is running anyway and therefore could give a skewed view
of the real access statistics.
