Nothing like the 'output' function you mentioned.  But if you have an
identity attribute on one of the columns in that table, you can do something
like:

SELECT field1, field2, ... FROM TABLE1 WHERE IDFIELD = IDENTITY_VAL_LOCAL();

as a workaround.

Nice! And I can tell if I'm on V6R1 so I can construct the select/insert
correctly and fallback gracefully. But any solutions for V5R4 (ie, the
"current" release). :)
