If we were talking about someone starting out in programming I
wouldn't necessarily disagree with that sentiment Joe - although I'd
have to include plug-boards and not just assembler (you youngsters!).
But this was a) an experienced programmer and b) he was looking for a
quick start to web programming (yes - I did mention RDi SOA).
If RPG were to be his choice then I just didn't see the point in
recommending that he take a harder approach than necessary given his
time constraints. Those APIs are pretty horrible, poorly documented,
and ... well ... why beat your head against a brick wall when there
is little to be gained by doing so?
