A natural gas generator? I didn't know they existed.
Oh, yes. The ice rink where I used to work had one. The timer that ran
its weekly exercise cycle died at one point, without anybody noticing,
and as a result, the starter went bad. Because it was surrounded by
brick walls with very little clearance, it took me months of tinkering
before I was able to get the starter off, get it fixed/replaced, and get
it reinstalled. Then (since it was a 2-cylinder engine, on a mechanical
governor), I had to recalibrate the RPM with a borrowed vibration
tachometer. Remarkably, when I finally tested it, the output frequency
differed from the utility by only a few Hz.
Which is to say, if you're contemplating one of these beasties, PUT THEM
WHERE THERE'S ADEQUATE ROOM TO WORK ON THEM, and make SURE they get
exercised on schedule!
