Yes, send me a rack config directly. I don't do much with 8MM tapes, so I
don't know if that will go over or is there a need to put it on a different
set of rails. If you don't have an internal tape on the 820, that is the
slot that you would be able to put it. Also, what release of i5/OS are you
running or plan to run.

Pete, thanks for the info. That is what I am trying to do, move the
ethernet and tape card to the 820 chassis and get rid of the 720 expansion
frame. I also notice the 820 part does not have a tape drive, but the 720
part has an 8mm drive, can I move that over as well? If I send you a rack
config, can you tell me what slots I can use for the 2729 and 2838 cards?

That would be a Migration (if it's the old 720 CEC as you say) Tower, which
isn't supported in V5R4, so if you plan to go to V5R4, you will need to
remove the tower first. You can move both cards over, and since we don't
know what slots are open its hard to say where they should go. While both
these cards are old, the 2838 will work fine, but the 2729 is a very slow
card. You didn't say what tape drive you have off the 2729 card, but you
might look at a 2749 card to drive the tape (again, not knowing the tape
device, I can't say).

I have a client with an 820, that has an expansion cabinet (looks like a
720). The ONLY thing the expansion cabinet is being used for is to house a
2729 SCSI card for a tape drive an a 2838 Ethernet card. Can I move these
to the base 820 cabinet?? If so, what are the preferred slots, if not, what
are the replacement cards?

Thanks in advance to your hardware gurus.
