Pete,

I'm glad you mentioned this "undocumented" part of COMMON.  Long before 
there was a Midrange there were people that I met at COMMON that I, too, 
could (and very often did!) call upon for assistance.  All too often 
I've seen attendees at CUDS (now iSocial) that just sit around quietly 
sipping their Coke (or whatever) by themselves or in their familiar 
clique.  Personally I'm an introvert, but I just suck it in and start 
talking with people.

One of the questions I've been asked in this regard is, "How do I start 
meeting people?  I'm just a programmer from Deming, New Mexico."  Well, 
volunteering is a great way; you immediately start making contacts 
without even trying!  I know personally that both the Education 
Foundation and the Requirements Committee are looking for people to help 
man their tables for an hour or two here and there; all you have to do 
is smile and answer simple questions.  Michelle August, CEF
