And be cost prohibitive.  To run one twinax console not only do you need a 
twinax console, and the cabling, but you also need a twinax card, and the 
slot to run it. Think "new customer".  Not an existing customer that has a 
slew of these sitting around on a shelf.
Built like battleships would have been expensive as the original 5251 Mod 
11, or 5292.  Weren't those a few thousand dollars - 20 years ago?  The 
3196 was a piece of garbage that the power switches broke a lot.  Replaced 
several of those.
