In our Wintouch product, the Workflow option is driven by a trigger program that identifies the altered file, and the type of activity, then executes any script that might be present for the combination. This has the advantage that the workflow fires whether the change was made from within the product, or otherwise.

We also frequently use triggers as part of the interface between Wintouch and a customer's native system, to handle the "inbound" direction, i.e., changes in the native system that are to be reflected in Wintouch.

Triggers are very powerful. But please note that whenever you make changes to triggering, EVERYBODY ELSE MUST BE OUT of the triggered file(s).
