RE: Interesting question and debate on ddl tables with date fields that will not always have a value

I have a "senior" programmer here who was a bit reluctant to use the
writing to IFS stuff (as via Scott Klement) to get around a CPYTOIMPF
issue. The issue was a tab delimited row was leaving a blank for a field
that was all blank even if we told it to trim all blanks

partner said must send no blank at all.
I told the programmer that either he wrote to IFS directly or to use null
capable fields. I created a table with null capable fields and when I did
the CPYTOIMPF on that it correctly did
tab tab
and not
tab blank tab
He's eating up null capable fields. And if he's willing to do it...
This was just this morning.
