which appears in DSPFFD as
Field
LTLNAM
Alternative name . . .
MYBIGDARNLONGNAME

The difference between DDL here and DDS is that in DDL, by default, you
are defining the alias, and IF the alias is 10 characters or less it will
use it as the field name as shown in DSPFFD. If not then an autogenerated
one will appear. For example, let's modify the above sql statement to
this

CREATE TABLE QTEMP/DIE
(MYBIGDARNLONGNAME FOR CHAR (30 ))

After I run that DSPFFD shows
Field
MYBIG00001
Alternative name . .
MYBIGDARNLONGNAME
