Mike,

I should mention that at this time, AFPTOOL doesn't convert color AFPDS
spooled files to color PDF files or TIFFs. Which brings up the question,
does the HPT API support color yet? :)

I have been digging through the archives looking up how to do color
overlays. The ultimate goal here is to create a PDF file (with

for the method

Color overlays with IBM standard tools are ... interesting.

First there's the IBM AFP Printer Driver.

It has some issues with color conversions, though. There's also a
version of it included with System i Access.

After pestering IBM for some time, i've received a version resolved
most of our color conversion issues, i've put it up here for your
convenience, but i would suggest you try the official versions first.

Secondly, 5722-IP1 with it's PDF conversion options works well, but
has serious speed issues on older hardware - but you're good to go if
you have a machine with 1000 CPW or more (which any halfway recent
machine has).

Then there's the "creative" way in my blog post above - it's an
extremely ugly hack, and it should not be used anymore. I'll add a
disclaimer stating that.

There are also other, more professional tools for dealing with AFP
files, but it looks like most of these are aimed at IBMs larger
InfoPrint products (like the 4000 series), and it shows in the price.

There also other ways to create Overlays if your aim ist just for PDF
files - tools like pdfmerge can run in PASE, and there's a variety of
tool vendors out there that offer pdf overlay in addition to pdf
creation. They might have better ways than AFP Overlays.
