My system is set up to do allow me to enter a project number and
cost code.

That's interesting. That sounds somewhat like my earlier thought about cross referencing with Project ID and Task ID. Where each Project ID and Task ID would be unique.

In your case, are cost codes generic - the same code you might use across multiple projects? A code to represent traditional project phases (analysis, design, development, documentation, etc.), for example?

Or could cost codes be something supplied by the customer?
