Again..  for the sake of example:  Hotel requires 100 rooms occupied. 
When they only get 99 rooms occupied, they charge an attrition fee to 
the conference.  In my example, it was an $8k charge.   By getting one 
more person (and bringing the count up to 100) they avoid that $8k fee.
That's just the way the hotels work.  I don't know why -- it seems 
illogical to me.  But if they fail to make their minimum number of 
rooms, they get charged ridiculous fees.
Dan Kimmel posted a more accurate fee, based on COMMON's actual 
experience. He said COMMON would've been charged $160k this time around, 
if it weren't for some skilled negotiations by COMMON's staff.
