What might a good CMS do that our own tools can't?

Modern IBM i CMS / SCM system's do a lot ... probably more than you specifically need, but it might do things that you didn't realize you needed :)

Here's just a short list of what SCM system's can do ...

. Automatically manage dependencies on LF's & PF's so the necessary programs can be recompiled.
. Provide intelligent compilation so objects are recreated correctly.
. Manage concurrent development so changes made by two developers simultaneously are identified.
. Provide compare & merge functionality
. Deploy to multiple levels of QA before moving into production.
. Control who can work in what environments
. Protect production and/or QA environments from Developers
. Deploy to local & remote systems
. Provide controlled & audited deployment with rollback capability
. Integrate with issue tracking systems
. Integrate with WDSC / RDI

If you would like some information on MKS's Implementer product, feel free to contact me privately.
