If the stream file is in ASCII, and the database file is in the default of
EBCDIC, then the fact that you specified CVTDTA(*NONE) would explain why the
table contains garbage when viewed via STRSQL, QRY, DSPPFM, ect.

The system thinks it's EBCIDIC, but the data is ASCII.

You probably just need to let the system convert it, CVTDTA(*AUTO).
