Hi,

We're using Information Buildes WebFocus - and of course recommend it
to our customers.

that approach. Lower cost?

Well, lower Hardware cost. Most of our customers are running low-end
IBM i 520 - single core machines, that really struggle with Java.

Putting a quad core x3550 M2 next to it means _lots_ of Java
performance, lots of memory, and all that for half the price you'd
need to pay to get that second core activated (and yes - that includes
maintenance, OS licenses and everything).

desire to keep the workload off the i for performance reasons?

Well, all the CPU/memory intensive stuff. SQL queries still execute on
the i directly - no data warehouse setup.

Was it easy to get things into production?

Yes. It took a bit of figuring out how we wanted to implement SSO, but
after we've resolved that it wall works without a hitch - and perfect
SSO against Active Directory.

By the way: WebFocus also runs on the i - either as their full product
or as IBM's QU2 product. Don't think about using those on the
low-range models, though.
