Thanks Rob, I'm glad to know my idea wasn't completely crazy!

And thanks to all others for their input. I've actually never really thought
about database normalization until yesterday. Heard the term, but since I
don't generally design databases, I've never had the need to do it. Once I
read about it, it just makes sense to do it that way.
