The unions around Chicago are almost as bad, but downtown is terrible. I
speak from experience. I spent many years as one of the guys tasked with
setting up the lab rooms.
Picture having to get a union electrician to plug a computer into the wall.
Things got better when we brought a supply of booze for the union stewards
to distribute.

the union regulations in Chicago for conventions (especially exhibit
setup &c) are said to be among the worst in the nation! That's why
so much happens -around- Chicago!

reasonable accomodations, good convention center... things to see and
do...
