Have you tryed DSPPFM on the file created with DDS? And a SELECT or a
CHGDTA?

Will be nice to know the responses. Thank you.

DSPPFM gives
*...+....1....+
$bad$$bad$

SELECT * from DDS gives
NBR TXT
------------ ------------
************ $bad$

CHGDTA gives DFU0810 The retrieved record contains invalid data. It
does not show the record, nor can I update it.

insert into dds values('bad$2','bad 2' tells me (rightly) SQL0420
Character in CAST argument not valid.
