Re: FTP file from AS400 Library to PC -- MIDRANGE-L

The file which is transferred by 1st FTP method below comes as a blank file.Can anybody suggest where I am going wrong.This file is an outfile which has been created by DSPUSRPRF command and when I run the query runqry command I can see the data in it.

But when I download this file thru FTP the file gets downloaded with no data.

Also please let me know if there is any way to download this file thru i Series Access.

Log on with FTP, just as you would when transferring a file from a
directory.

Then type:

cd /qsys.lib/your-library.lib

Replace 'your-library', above, with the name of the library. But
remember to have the .lib at the end.

Then type:

get myfile.file/mymbr.mbr

(replace 'myfile' with your filename, and 'mymbr' with your member name)

Please be aware that this just TRANSFERS the file. IT does not change
the format of the file... so if there are any packed numeric fields in
the file, they will likely be corrupt.

A better alternative might be to use CPYTOIMPF to convert the file.
This'll convert it, and place the output in a directory in your IFS as a
text file. Then you can FTP that text file using the procedure you
already know how to use.

A third method would be to forget about FTP, and use an SQL tool based
on ODBC or JDBC, which would get the database file in the proper format.

Or a fourth method would be to use the file transfer tool in IBM i Access.

I could go on and on with different options -- there are a million ways
to transfer a file.

Maybe you can FTP to your AS400 from your PC and use a GET command.

If you're "not allowed to use any tool here" why would you be allowed
to extract a list of user profiles to your PC? Ask your security
officer how to accomplish this task.
