The message came from a poorly behaving mail server that another subscriber uses ... mail servers are supposed to bounce messages back to the SENDER address, not the FROM address (the sender, in this case, was the list server).

Generally speaking, these are Domino, Exchange, or poorly configured anti-spam systems.
