I have to say that host and guesting partitions are a great thing! Yes it
was a pain to save off the original partition on one box and scratch the
whole system and convert it to one host with two guests with the original
partition as a guest now. I didn't make it the original host because
while I could IPL 'GDI' on a whim I could not IPL the other two
partitions. Therefore 'GDI' had to be a guest, not the host.

'GDI' was a single lpar 270, which got upgraded to 5.4.5 then
unload/reload to a M25, then upgraded to 6.1 then saved off and restored
as a guest on that same M25.

One DVD shared between all lpars. Stick a disc in and immediately see
"Volume I_BASE_01 added to optical device." in QSYSOPR on all three lpars
at once. Just verified that again while typing up this paragraph.

While on another box with a mix of Guest, Host and dedicated lpars it only
showed up on one of the dedicated lpars. :-( To use that I have to
monkey around with the controller by shifting it around with the hmc. Plan
B was to pitch money at it and buy another controller card and another DVD
drive. We executed plan B.
