Hmmm. OK then. All I have to do is figure out which controller to make
"desired" as opposed to "required" without affecting the RAID controller
talking to the 5886.

This is true - and it makes sense.
It works like this: You can't switch tape drives. The HMC
doesn't know about tape drives - the HMC knows about
controllers. If the controller is attached to a tape drive
and several hard disks, switching the controller to a
different partition would switch the disks too.
