Hmmm, I assumed that was for incoming mail, not outgoing. The default
on my machine is *NO. The help text seems to suggest it's only for
incoming mail.

Maybe you're referring to incoming. I was referring to outgoing. I
haven't used IBM SMTP for years (I use my own product to bypass the
whole lot) but I never remember this affecting outgoing mail. MSF was
used for that.

  Bradley,

It is an option now on the CMGSMTPA.  I have it set to:

Process all mail through MSF . .   *NO

I can shut down MSF and mail transmission goes on without interruption.

  Bradley,

We have SMTP configured so that it should not be routing mail through
MSF.  Do you think this process would still have some effect?

When I was using SMTP (and pulling my hair out!  lol) when I hit a bad

 1.  End SMTP
 2.  End MSF
 3.  Restart MSF with the *CLEAR option
 4.  Start SMTP

I no longer use IBM SMTP though...  I got sick of the looping,
impossible debugging/tracing, and getting emails from 3 years ago
suddenly appearing in my inbox.  :)

  Hello List,

Up through V5R3, you could control how SMTP starts using the data area
named QTMSCLEAN in the QUSRSYS library.  However, starting with V5R4, it
seems that this method is no longer supported as SMTP fails to restart
when you use this technique to reset the server when it starts looping on
  a bad address.

Anyone know how to do this bit of magic at the more current OS release
  levels?
