Speaking of SQL, I saw a situation yesterday where an entire project got
stopped in its tracks because a whiz kid SQL coder had tried some esoteric
things to shave a few seconds of execution time off a stored procedure.

It worked just fine on V5R4, but somebody didn't bother to read the Memo to
Users before they upgraded to V6 over the weekend. The system puked SQL0338
messages all over the place.

I heard his boss tell him, "A little bit of extra performance doesn't mean
Jack $hit if the system's down." Any guesses how that kid will spend his
weekend? He only has a couple hundred of those things to fix.

Guess that depends on what you're doing.

Lots of SQL improvements, such as derived indexes
Built in support for full text indexing.
Web Query
RPG enhancements

I see benefits for any size company...
