There's a difference here. I think he was trying to use offset and wasn't
using "define by hand". He just got tripped by the offset starting at
zero. Which it does to make it easy to add to an existing base to get a
new pointer. An employee who left in 1997 drilled us hard on using
offsets and not "define by hand" (although I think I had that down even
then).
