Hi, James:

The Unix-like API you want to use is called "access" -- it will tell you if a stream file exists, or if you have access to it.

Do a google search for "CHKIFSOBJ" and you will find several versions availalble, with source code for a user-defined OS/400 command named CHKIFSOBJ that invokes the ACCESS function "under the covers" ...

There is one on Scott Klement's web site, and another at the www.easy400.net web site.

Hope that helps,

Mark S. Waterbury

It looks like I'm going to be needing to check for the existence of a

spawned it) has created the object (and no, there's no way for the
creating job to actually tell the waiting one that the object has arrived).

Is there a CHKOBJ-equivalent for the IFS? The system in question is at
V6R1. It wouldn't exactly be a hard thing to write (at least, in a
language other than CL), but I'm in no hurry to reinvent any wheels.
