RE: Simple way to tranfser library

Well, the method you outlined is free (all components are on the systems in
question) and pretty easy.

I used to work at a company that had two [2] 520s and used these steps
almost daily to transfer libraries from one to the other. In our case they
were sitting about a foot apart, but that's not really relevant.

I no longer have the code, but I wrote a set of programs that could run on
either system and push the library to the other system. You would need to
use the RUNRMTCMD which, I think, requires that the user profile doing the
port live on both systems with the same password, to perform steps like
CRTSAVF on the other system.

I recall that I manually went through the steps, much as you outlined, and
figured out how to put the steps into a set of CLs: The Push set on one
system, the Receive set on the other. Think it took about half-a-day, but
I'm old and slow.

Another alternative: If you're only porting the libraries to the other
system in order to have a backup, you might consider just ftp-ing the
savefiles to your PC and burning them to a CD. Of course, the CD costs
about 5¢.

Is there a simple way to copy a library to a remote (300 miles away)
iSeries? I know I can do:

Create SAVF
SAVLIB to SAVF
Create SAVF on remote system
Lather:
FTP SAVF to remote system
RSTLIB on remote system
CLRSAVF on remote system
CLRSAVF on local system
Lather, rinse, repeat (for each library)

I can do this but am hoping there's an easier, cheap (i.e. free)
alternative. We're upgrading to a new Power 7 and I need to copy some
libraries over to a remote i5 until the upgrade is complete, and then copy
them to the new system. I'd really rather not install anything new on the
old box, to accomplish this.
