You need to make sure the HMC hardware can support 7.7, some of the older HMC hardware can't. If you have a C03 model, you can only upgrade that as far as V7R3.5 SP3 (which is higher than the version you are running).

We have been upgrading all our clients to 7.7.2 SP2, or 7.7.3 SP1

Subject: Update HMC to V7R7?

Our HMC, on a single partition 9408 M25, is at Version 7, Release 3.4.0, service pack 1. We use it largely as the main console and also as a shared console.

Is there any significant advantage in updating to V7R7, which I believe is the current release?

(There is a remote possibility that we might carve out a testing LPAR next year.)

Thanks, Sam
