hi Sam,

Please consider using InfoZip (the zip/unzip utilities typically found on Unix/Linux/AIX machines) or 7-Zip. These utilities work great on IBM i, and support most (if not all) of the Zip capabilities. (But, 7-zip can be a challenge to install and get working.)

JAR runs really slow in my experience, and only supports a subset of Zip's capabilities. I've had a lot of trouble with JAR, and can't recommend it. (I must be an idiot, because every time this question comes up -- and it comes up frequently -- tons of people recommend JAR. And I hate it.)

The AIXPDSLIB described in the preceding link is no longer available, but the files can be found here:

Thanks to all who responded. I was unable to use the JAR suggestion
because of some Java setup problem on the backup machine. (Hopefully
the upgrade to 7.1 will fix that.)
