Do you know of a good, native, solution that runs on IBM i, and
stores data in the native database?

I'm not aware of an IBM i solution that would be functionally equivalent to Google's calendar services, and more particularly Google's web services related to their calendar, if that's your frame of reference.

I now get the impression that James Lambert's CRM system already has calendaring built in for users, but that users may also have personal external calendars with Google that they want to query, for conflicts. To me, synchronizing dual calendars for users could get unwieldy pretty quickly, but maybe that's a requirement for him.

We use different types of calendars for different types of events. We have a daily planner for users and user groups events. We have school attendance calendars where days are marked as various types of attendance or non-attendance days. We have school calendars where health screening, immunization, office visits, and medication administration events events are scheduled. We use a calendar in teacher's grade books to indicate whether classroom attendance was recorded, or not.

While I see some appeal to using a centralized calendaring service like Google's, it just seems like we come up with more and more needs for user interfaces that incorporate calendars that link to various application data.

So we use a home-grown widget to display calendar data.
