IBM's "Julian dates" have as much to do with *actual* Julian

Most references to a "Julian date" [for IBM i anyhow] likely apply
only to a presentation-format and\or input-format for Gregorian date
values. For example the CHGJOB DATFMT(*JUL) does not change the job to
use the Julian calendar, instead the request merely changes the job to
default the presentation and expectation for input of Gregorian date
values. I am not sure of what if any external interface might expose
the Julian calendar type, except perhaps the SQL JULIAN_DAY scalar;
beyond that, the database [AFaIK still] only supports the Gregorian
calendar [though, with the skipped\missing days accounted\included] for
date calculations. I am not aware of what other than the LOCALE has
exposed the Era calendar type.
