FWiW I was once frustrated by many but infrequent mysterious cases of
the emulator window [or perhaps the whole application] disappearing.
Eventually the cause was tracked down to some special keyboard mapping
being too close to some OS shortcut sequences. There would be no issue
as long as the _next_ key(s) pressed were not the shortcut characters to
effect close of the window [or application]. So for example [I can not
recall exactly] if I had coded Alt-Space to do something, sometimes the
OS would intercept them and activate the application-open-menu shortcut,
and then the next two keystrokes might choose a menu and then a
menu-item. So if the later keystrokes were not valid to activate menu
features, then those characters properly appeared on my screen and
nothing seemed amiss.
The issue was not all that problematic for me because I used named
devices and *DSCJOB for the device recovery action, and the disconnect
interval was always either turned off or the maximum. Just frustrating
to have to get the session(s) going again after they "just disappeared"
without me ever having clicked the X to close the window.
