The main gotcha to pushing a PDF back to a non-PDF printer using the
Infoprint Transform manager, is that it rasterizes images, making them look
ugly. AFPSRC doesn't seem to give an real control over the size of the JPG
resource either, and AFPSRC embeds a much smaller JPG image than the one I
create. Its been a disappointing research project, and as I was working on
it, I realized that I'd been down this road about 3-4 years ago, and came
to the exact same conclusions then.
There might be java tools you could use to convert a PDF to a USERASCII
type printer file that could be consumed directly by the printer, so that
the i OS (isn't it funny how IBM's OS is named so similar to the iPhone's
now?) wouldn't corrupt it, but I don't know of any. That will be my next
research project when I get done with some other projects.

Thanks guys for keeping this thread alive. It sure would be nice if some
IBM'er (or anyone) who actually has access to a complete answer would step
in. Or if there is someone out there who can say "Sure, we use this all
the time on this printer. Here's a little sample code." The keyword
AFPRSC has been around for so long you would think the answer would exist.
If we keep printing from rpg, we are all probably going to need this
functionality soon.
Does it only work on some printers? If so, some examples and why?
Does it only work to create pdf's? If so what are the techniques and
gotchas of sending the pdf back to the printer?
Do you need Infoprint?
Do you need psf/400?
