I find the AIX RPM packages pretty easy to install.

there are good instruction for installing here:
http://www.youngiprofessionals.com/wiki/PASE/OpenSourceBinaries

that looks to install gcc 4.0.0

whereas the GIT wwwinstallgit.sh looks like it installs 4.6.2
from here:
http://174.79.32.155/wiki/index.php/PASE/Git
