You can use 'stat()' from a CLLE, there have been example posted here and around the web. CHKIFSOBJ comes to mind. http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l/200501/msg00776.html

/qopensys/QIBM/ProdData/JavaVM/jdk626/32bit
