It depends on the downtime requirements.

For a switched-disk iASP (just moving the iASP assignment between partitions). You can use SWA to reduce downtime but it is basically the same as doing a savsys separate from the all user save.

If you are replicating the iASP using geographic mirroring then you can suspend replication, vary on the target iASP and backup up.

If you are replicating using external disk, we typically use Flash Copy to make a point-in-time copy of the iASP, vary it on using a different partition and back up.
